The desktop buddy concept has been around forever (anybody remember Bonzai Buddy?) but has rarely been done particularly well. Stardock, on the other hand, has a history of doing things very well, which is why I became interested when I learned that they have released a desktop buddy called Desktop Pet. The Desktop Pet also gets a bunch of objects to play and interact with, including a cheese maker and an outhouse. The one downside is that unlike most other Stardock software, a demo version is not available prior to purchase; you’ll have to shell out $9.95 to play with him, or $8.95 if you’re already an Object Desktop customer.
